About me

I have always participated in some form of sport or outdoor activity since joining the Royal Navy, I discovered Pilates in 2005, after injury and through pain, as many of us do. It has been a journey of continuous improvement in my own practice and I feel I have resolved my own lower back issues to the extent that I am largely pain free. Looking back over an active life, I wish I had learnt and practised Pilates before all of it, as I understand now that it would have been a foundation to all that I have participated in (karate, boxing, rugby, rock climbing).

At a personal level and, most importantly, it has become clear that rather than immobilising at the point of pain, increased mobility can be acquired through working away from and lengthening that part of the spine. Sometimes boundaries have to be pushed a little in the search of progress.

Since embarking on my teacher training journey, I have gained further insight into the Pilates method and the importance of the connections that we make in our bodies as we perform the exercises. Working from the core outwards makes so much more sense when you make the connections happen, and it is why the Pilates method is so effective. Insightful teaching guides the client to discover how their body moves and feels for themself. Apply and keep in mind the Pilates principles and what is done becomes more than just exercise.

I am passionate about helping others to benefit from the Pilates method and hope to set an example for others to follow, overcoming difficulties through effort. I can be a taskmaster, but I am very spiritually connected and live by the mantra that everyone is here to help each other, so I am empathetic. I look forward to not only teaching clients but forming constructive relationships that benefit the client in their practice and help me to become a better teacher.

When not teaching private clients, I can also be found teaching at "Pilates from Within" in Haslemere.
